UT's next coach is......

You will see tons of names but I doubt you will see them pull from a major program. Kiffin, Mendenhall, Patterson, Peterson, and Kelly will be the main 5 I see as a possiblity.

is there a good chance of them gettin leech or more then likely not??

I think the job Saban has done recruiting has pointed the arrow at Kiffin for the #1 candidate....

I think some of Sabans recruiting success is from his recent ties to the NFL, Kiffin will share that bond with young players...Coaches fresh out of the NFL bring a strong point to a young, talented recruit: "Son If yuo keep it up at your level you have a chance to play on Sundays, and I can help make that happen for you, I know hundreds of scouts, coaches, and even owners on a first name basis"

Some may disagree, but I think that is what is helping Saban with these beastly young players, and has also helped Pete Carrol as well...

What about Butch Davis? Do you think he would leave North Carolina for UT?

I he stays sane he will realize what a good thing they have started at UNC and want leave until they have to carry him off the sidelines... or out of the press box ( referring to a Joe Pa situation)

He is another according to WQUT this morning that said he had no interest.

This morning Mike and Mike were stating that Jon Gruden may have an interest.

Im hearing Brian Kelly's name pop up as well.

You can likely go ahead and scratch Gary Patterson off the list. Ron Prince was let go by K State and Patterson is a KState alum. Hes going there it appears.

Agree somewhat, BUT, North Carolina, Duke, and Kentucky will always be basketball schools, no matter what. Im sure UNC is a great place though.

Barack Hussain Obama: Change they can believe in. This man has the answer to everything and would lead the Vols to an unbeaten season and the national championship. He would also make so much money for UT that the fans would get paid for attending games.

I definitely figure Leach is gonna get some attention. I don't see Cutcliffe being any different or much different than Phil, and the excitement is what UT needs. It used to be one of the best schools for a receiver, but the program has almost forgotten how to throw the ball, so naturally good receivers aren't coming there.

Nobody though Meyer would succeed at Florida either with his 'gimmick' offense, and long-term he may not, and they are subject to a few bumps in the road now and then, but kids go there because its exciting to play that style.

The question will be does UT wanna go close to Phil's style or do they wanna take the change up and go totally different. I think they have to update a bit. I know that a great line and a good back will help you win a lot of games, but for UT to turn the corner, they are gonna have to attract some impact players IMO.

I honestly am not sure who is the right fit, thats the only problem, it was easy to see Phil needed to go (not downing Phil either, he did great things with the program, just has slipped into a complacency (sp) that a lot of coaches do after years at a place.

Watching ESPN just now and it hit me as they were discussing all the coaching openings.

Do not be surprised that UT hires a black coordinator for his first HC job under pressure from the ncaa.

I don't have a problem with it. I had mentioned UCLA's DC as a replacement after they destroyed UT.

I still think Kiffin takes it. Walker may come in with him as a higher paid DC though.


Theres some rumblings of Spurrier being vocal about heading to the Plains if Ears is out.

Spurrier stays at SC and Jon Gruden will be at UT.

I have heard Jon Gruden quite a bit, but I just can't see him taking the job. But, I'm sure UT has the Cash, so ya never know.

I dont see Gruden either. If he was closer to being finished in the NFL I could understand, but I don't see him at the end of his rope there.

I really don't see him there either, but money does persuade a persons mind.

I think me and you are on the same page with this stripes, I almost think it is all but Kiffins to turn down or take....

Although I wouldn't mind to see Gruden for their sake either, I just don't think he is toast where he is yet...

Kiffin would bring a load of recruits. Coach Fulmer brought a National Title to UT. Maybe our next coach can get us back to that place.

I could live with Butch Davis. He left Larry Coaker a National Championship team in Miami. I'm sure he could do it at UT. He has a good thing going in UNC though.

I just hope the next coach will help the Vols get back to the top. Im gonna miss Coach Fulmer. He was a damn good coach.

A lot on different Vol boards want Peterson, I am still skeptical myself. He still has a lot of Dan Hawkins guys. Pat Hills a good coach, but he has a place in Fresno that I don't see him leaving. He's not got the name/face to recruit bigtime I am afraid.

Bronco Mendenhall is tossed around a little as well. Rumors on Kiffin seem to be cooling a little, and I could see Brian Kelly's name heating up even more.

I U wanna coach big time football in big time games, it ain't in the ACC. SEC is top dog conference in NCAA Div 1. Davis will come because he wants to win championships that MEAN SOMETHING!
